Meet Alabama.   Al for short.   Also affectionately referred to as Mr. Snuggle Bum, Mr. Lover, and pain in the alse….

There is a team in WNY, Sherlock Bones, who were alerted to this sweetheart that was abandoned in the Alabama Swamps on May 7th.   After receiving proper permissions and asking DITR to receive him into the rescue when captured, they set about the task of capturing him.   On May 11th we were notified that DITR had expanded by one sweet little dude.

Efforts were made to locate an owner.   Unfortunately – no one came forward.   And now after almost a month and a half it’s time to find him his forever.   We did initially think his foster momma would fail to give him up, but she has a full house and knows as much as she loves him – it’s time for him to lose his title as DITR Foster and turn it into DITR Alumni.

Al is approximately 1-2 years old and is a terrier mix.   4 weeks ago he weighed in at 8lbs 15 oz and we do expect at his vet visit on Monday he will be around 10-11 lbs….

When Al was found he was extremely malnourished and had quite a few ticks on him….   When he was bathed you could see his ribs as well as his spine through his wet fur.   Now, well, when he goes swimming and gets wet you see nothing but a plump belly and a happy boy running around!!!   We are absolutely amazed at his demeanor and he has shown how resilient and forgiving dogs can be!!!

Al is currently living with larger dogs and dogs his size, as well as kitties, a toddler, older child and his momma and dad. He loves his grandpa and grandma.   He isn’t sure about what to do with the cats, he actually seems scared of them!!

Al needs a home that has a lot of "structured chaos" such as his foster mom's home.  She has 3 dogs of her own, 2 kids, and other foster dogs.  He had to learn at her house to share the love.  OR he needs a home where it's just gonna be him, his parents, and another fur sibling.  New people coming into the house make him nervous and he barks and portrays himself as the alpha dog.  His foster family crates him when new people come over until he calms down and then let him out.  People visiting are cognizant that he is scared and just let him come to them when he's ready.....

His foster mom had this to say –

“This little dude has wormed his way into our hearts and our souls and we will forever remember his story and cherish the time we have had with him.   Watching him heal and grow has been the greatest gift we could have received.   He has put his trust into us and we have been honored to watch him flourish.

He wants nothing more than to pal around with his humans and consume every inch of love that you will bestow upon him.   He is especially fond of our female dog, who is about 60# bigger than him.   And is often seen snuggling with her and playing the chase game through our house with her.

It saddens us to let him go, but we know we are making the right choice for him.   And for future pups that need our help.   We ARE hopeful that whomever becomes his forever family will bestow us a gift of keeping in touch so we can continue to the see this little boy grow and be loved on….

This little guy is amazing.   And truly deserves everything that we at DITR promise our foster dogs…   A forever filled with love, hugs, and true happiness….”
