Groot is a very sweet dog that was abandoned by his owner during Hurricane Florence in South Carolina.  He was left in a pen in a low lying area that always floods. His owners fled to an emergency shelter...that allowed pets!! The owner did not take his 2 dogs with him. Had one of the city employees not taken a boat into their backyard to save Groot and his female companion (who was adopted) they would have drowned.  Both dogs had really bad eye infections and the owner said he never took them to the vet.  

Groot is a social, happy, fun boy that loves attention. He likes to stand up against you and be hugged! He gets along with other dogs but likes to be the boss! He needs slow introductions with other male dogs. He is currently in a shelter in South Carolina and has been there since September.... He had heartworms when he arrived and does have some damage to the left side of his heart due to this.  He has completed his heartworm treatment. 

We want to make Groot a Diamond but need a foster or forever home before we can bring him to WNY.  Please fill out an application if you can give this boy, who has been through so much, a cozy and loving home.
