Please say hello to Toby. Toby is a handsome male pitbull who is about 2 years old. Before coming to DITR, Toby never knew what it was like to be loved or wanted or even played with. He was often locked in a basement or his owners truck and he survived on table scraps or cat food, toilet water and often left to scavenge through the neighborhood trash to survive.
When we got the notice of a "dog i
n need" it was relayed to us that his "owner" was threatening to shoot him because he had become such a nuisance to them. Toby was underweight, never been to the vet, he had cigarette burns on his scrotum and hind end, his coat was dull and thought to be brown and he was pretty unsure of himself.. But he couldn't wait to get away from that place! So after giving me few face licks and some cuddles, he trusted me enough to hop right in to my truck and away we went to McDonalds for a cheeseburger!
That was Toby last summer.
Today Toby is found in his room at the rescue, usually lounging around on his toddler bed waiting anxiously for someone to come visit him. The minute he hears one of us pull up, he's right in the window, wagging his tail so hard and fast that his entire body wiggles with it!
Toby has been getting some training and some extra help with his separation anxiety and it's now time for him to go to a home where he can call his own.
Toby is looking for his family! Kids and another dog to play with are a plus, but cats are too much fun for him to chase, so his ideal home will have none. He is so desperate for love now that he knows what it is, that he craves attention all of the time. So a family where someone is home often would be best for him. He gets a little scared when everyone leaves, thinking his people aren't going to come back because he doesn't yet understand that not all people are bad.
