Bella came to us as a "mill dog". She was bred in the Amish community, who gave her up when she wasn't in perfect condition to sell. She has a spinal defect, which makes her a little unsteady on her feet. This condition was exacerbated when she was raised in a small crate with the Amish.
Bella was rescued by Diamonds and has just flourished. We raised funds for Bella to have surgery on her spine at Cornell University. While we were waiting for the surgery to take place, Bella improved so much, just by getting exercise and being out of a small crate. When we took her to Cornell for the surgery, the doctors there determined that she should not have it at this time, as she had improved so much and her spine was still growing.
Bella gets around very well on her own. She can walk and run, but sometimes gets going so fast she falls down. She is still a puppy and loves to run and play with other dogs. She would do well in a home with another dog, but maybe not an extremely active dog that may have her running too much.
Bella is going through water therapy at this time, in Amherst, and we will continue with her therapy using funds raised specifically to help Bella. Her doctor feels she is ready to bond with a family who will continue to care for her.
She is a great ambassador for the Doberman breed - extremely friendly and loves everyone she comes in contact with.
